Lee Mink Custom Furniture
“If you can make something functional—solving your client’s needs—then you can make it beautiful.”
Lee Mink has designed custom furniture throughout her 35-year design career. She believes custom furniture is problem-solving—the result of having to get something done to accommodate different needs.
“First we design something functional, solving our clients needs. Then we deisgn it to be beautiful.”
“Proportion is a major challenge facing designers in today’s oversized world. In the case of a small, historic house versus a big, modern house, you still need to seat eight, but not on a gargantuan piece of furniture.”
“I use finishes that stand the test of time, and I like to blend materials—hard and strong with airy and light; soft color and fabric with nap juxtaposed against stainless steel; warm and fuzzy against cold and sleek. It’s all about creating the element of surprise, which is very important to me. I like the unexpected, as in elegant and classical, with a twist.”
“We are focused on design, not sales. We combine custom with available product selections—whatever best meets the need. And we always would rather adapt the product to the project than the other way around.”
